    About the Range

Hand selected parcels of fruit from premium Yarra Valley vineyards.

    The Season

The 2017 vintage in the Yarra Valley started about the same time as normal, about midway through February. We began picking on the 14th of February, with Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Shiraz. The fast ripening of the season saw flavours develop quickly. This has led to a fresh fruit driven wine that is clean and refreshing on the palete.

The grapes for this Yarra Valley Chardonnay were in fact entirely from our Estate vineyard! From the lower part of our east/west slope at A block. The soil is deeper here and flavours are more fruit driven and expressive, compared to the more subtle, powerful and mineral/soil derived flavors from mid-slope and above. After hand-picking, the grapes were placed overnight in the coolroom and chilled to 5 degrees. Allowing any oxidative/enzymatic reactions to slow and for the indigenous yeasts on the fruit to start building mass. Grapes were then whole-bunch pressed the following morning and racked as dirty juice to three 500L French oak puncheons within 24 hours of pressing. Indigenous fermentation in barrel lasted around one month. No battonage and no MLF, the wine was bottled with minimal filtration on February 5th.

    Tasting Notes

Bright pale straw with green hues, extremely vibrant and brilliant in the glass. The nose shows hints of grapefruit and stone fruit, both rich and flavoursome yet subtle. No real oak influence, but plenty of mealy, flinty notes. The palate is poised and powerful, showing off a benchmark Yarra Valley vintage and our site. Again oak nowhere to be seen it simply helps usher the beautiful pure fruit to the back of an effortless long and fine palate. This wine will look terrific over the medium term.

A great pairing with freshly caught King George Whiting, crunchy kipflers and good company.
