    About the Range

Hand selected parcels of fruit from premium Yarra Valley vineyards.

    The Season

The 2018 growing season began with a later then average budburst, and led into excellent conditions for flowering and set, auguring well for an even and good sized crop. However 200mm of December rain came and created an array of growing concerns, including large dense canopies and ensuing disease pressures. All hands on deck, removing unnecessary shoots, leaves and bunches in this time and a mild dry January-March saved this wonderful crop. The resultant fruit was ripe, balanced and the wines are approachable early with good prospects for medium term cellaring. An excellent season of ripe, fresh flavours and understated power

    Winemaking

Blend of three vineyards: Medhurst Estate, Lonestar Creek and Yileena Park. All fruit hand picked and immediately destemmed into small open fermenters for cold maceration. 10% of the fruit was kept as whole bunches and tipped directly on top of the de-stemmed berries. Once fermentations commenced, the cap was gently wet twice a day and remained on its skins for 12 days. At the completion of ferment, the wine was pressed to tank and then racked to French oak barrels (10% new) for malolactic fermentation. After 5 months in barrel, the blend was assembled in August and held in stainless steel for one month before being bottled August 31st, 2018.

    Food Pairing

Perfectly paired with light meats, peking duck or some pecorino cheese.

    Tasting notes

Bright ruby red appearance with a lovely crimson hue. Lovely nose, highly perfumed wine with red cherry, five spice savoury and floral notes dominating the aromas. The palate has a core of red fruit flavours around a backbone of natural acid. The mouthfeel is lithe and energetic with slinky fine tannins and a clean, fruit-driven finish. A wine made for immediate consumption that will improve with careful cellaring over the medium term.
