    About the Range

A pure expression of our site and the season.

    The Season

The 2018 growing season began with a later then average budburst, and led into excellent conditions for flowering and set, auguring well for an even and good sized crop. However 200mm of December rain came and created an array of growing concerns, including large dense canopies and ensuing disease pressures. All hands on deck, removing unnecessary shoots, leaves and bunches in this time and a mild dry January-March saved this wonderful crop. The resultant fruit was ripe, balanced and the wines are approachable early with good prospects for medium term cellaring. An excellent season of ripe, fresh flavours and understated power.

    Winemaking

After a very long and gentle press, the delicious sauvignon blanc juice was fermented in stainless steel at cool temperature to retain as much fruit intensity as the season could give. The fermentation was stopped at 50g/L residual sugar for the perfect balance of sweetness and natural acidity.

    Tasting Notes

Pale straw with a slight green hue; almost translucent. Frances has a bright and tropical aroma true to her sauvignon blanc heritage. Passionfruit, kiwi fruit and melon burst with some delicious sweetness. The best is saved for last, as Frances finishes with a fresh and clean finish.

We can’t decide whether we want to serve Frances in a tall glass with heaped ice and a sprig of mint, or chilled in a wine glass as a “wedge” in the middle of a meal, or as a refreshing accompaniment to fresh berries or a light dessert. However you must try her with some creamy soft and deliciously ripe cheese at the end of a meal to get the most out of her.
