    Estate-grown MV6, wild-fermented for 12 days with 15% whole bunches, pressed to a single new French puncheon for completion of fermentation and maturation, bottled Feb '14, 52 dozen made. Bright, clear colour; ticks each and very box with precision. A lovely pinot, equally expressive of place and variety.

    The Season

    A great start to the the season in spring saw an even budburst and even run up to flowering. Good fruitset and low disease pressure allowed for even ripening. The heat in January caused rapid acceleration in ripening, meaning it was an early start to vintage. Consistent warm and dry conditions produced wines of excellent flavours, structure and longevity.

    Winemaking

    The fruit for this stunning pinot noir was hand-picked MV6 clone from our steep B block. 15% whole bunches were used with a wild fermentation lasting around 12 days. The juice was then pressed into a single new French oak puncheon and bottled in Feb 2014. 52 dozen produced.

    Tasting Notes

    Bright ruby with a lovely crimson hue. The Medhurst Reserve Pinot Noir is a highly complex wine with intense red spicy fruit weaving through a fine framework of tannin and natural acid. The warmth of the season together with the extremely low crop has ensured a concentrated and precise wine, with a generous and silky finish.
