2005 Medhurst Shiraz

Made on our best block where the sun ripens the fruit to perfection. A complex and brooding cool climate shiraz with a youthful dense red-purple colour, defying its age. Complex aromas dominated by bitumen, sausages, thyme, aniseed and pepper are mixed in with ripe red berries and plums. Complex and earthy flavours yield to firm and definite tannins that dominate the texture, leading to a powerful and dry finish. Cellaring recommended up to 10 years, or enjoy it with a richly flavoured lamb ragu parpadelle pasta.

Grown on a steep north facing slope with a slightly easterly aspect allows the vines to get full sunlight from first light in the morning till the late afternoon. A vertical shoot trellis system allows the fruit to be given more cover from the sun during the hotter summer months if necessary. Vine vigor is controlled through judicious watering and canopy trimming.
